Springtime in Skagit County!  I know it's a bit of a drive;  about 1 hour from north Seattle/Lynnwood but the beauty (and the lunch stop) is worth it.   We will tour the valley and hopefully see some daffodils and other spring color. We may even see some of Wally's favorite bird species as they do not know the boundaries of Fir Island.   To see tulips,  join me on April 14th for the Treats ride. They call it Skagit flats for a reason but we'll manage to find a couple minor hills but no worries;  we will ride those at our own pace and regroup at the top.   Lunch will be at mile 24 at Sliders Cafe in La Connor.  Please bring a bike lock if you can.

Directions: Start location is Edgewater Park on the Skagit River, near downtown Mount Vernon. Take I-5 north, exit Kincaid Street in Mount Vernon (exit 226), take a left off the exit then follow signs through downtown for highway 536 (this will be basically  be a right on S. Third then bearing left onto Division to cross the Skagit River bridge). As soon as you cross the bridge take the next left on Ball Street which will dead end at the park. Restrooms available at start. Park in the gravel lot near the play area and not by the restroom building.

Please arrive, use the restroom and be ready by 9:50 for the safety briefing as I will not delay the ride start past 10 am.

Bring full water bottles as sometimes the water is not available at the restroom building.   Bring pocket snacks and money for lunch.  Please print a cue sheet or download the route at the link provided.

Weather Cancellation: Rain,  dangerously high winds or frosty roads will cancel this ride.  Rain during the ride could amend the route.   If I need to cancel the ride I will post a message in the comments section of this posting by 7 am on the day of the ride and will not be at the start. Be sure to check this before you make the drive!

Pre-register:  If you have a basic free Cascade account please pre-register online by selecting the Register button at the top of this posting. If your plans change you do not need to notify me.  You are also welcome to sign in at the ride start.

Comments

As of 16 March, Cascade Bicycle Club and the Rides Committee have decided to suspend Free Group Rides through the end of March and reevaluate the situation surrounding the coronavirus at that time.

Bicycling is still a great way to exercise and boost your immune system during this time of public health advisory. We encourage you to find a way to continue to ride your bike in a responsible and safe way during the upcoming weeks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these difficult times. We look forward to riding as a group again soon. Stay safe and healthy.
