A social, scenic ride from Mount Vernon across the Skagit Flats to view some tulip fields before the daily crowds build, then on to Anacortes for lunch (mile 26) at the Gere A Deli. This is a lovely ride using part of the Tommy Thompson trail and will include a loop around March point for eagle spotting. There are great views of Fidalgo Bay. Although this ride is a bit of a drive (approx 1 hour from Lynnwood area) this gorgeous rural loop will make your drive worthwhile.
Directions: Start location is Edgewater Park on the Skagit River, near downtown Mount Vernon. Take I-5 north, exit Kincaid Street in Mount Vernon (exit 226), take a left off the exit then follow signs through downtown for highway 536 (this will be basically be a right on S. Third then bearing left onto Division to cross the Skagit River bridge). As soon as you cross the bridge take the next left on Ball Street which will dead end at the park. Restrooms available at start. Park in the gravel lot near the play area and not by the restroom building.
Please arrive, use the restroom and be ready by 9:50 for the safety briefing as I will not delay the ride start past 10 am.
Bring full water bottles as sometimes the water is not available at the restroom building. Bring pocket snacks and money for lunch. Please print a cue sheet or download the route at the link provided.
Weather Cancellation: Rain, dangerously high winds or frosty roads will cancel this ride. Rain during the ride could amend the route. If I need to cancel the ride I will post a message in the comments section of this posting by 7 am on the day of the ride and will not be at the start. Be sure to check this before you make the drive!
Pre-register: If you have a basic free Cascade account please pre-register online by selecting the Register button at the top of this posting. If your plans change you do not need to notify me. You are also welcome to sign in at the ride start.
