Ride Description:

“From West Seattle to Mercer Island for Lunch” will take us on the bike path over the Duwamish Waterway, through Sodo’s industrial-commercial district, and then onto the bike path next to I-90 across Lake Washington to Mercer Island.  After a short rest stop on the Mercer Island “lid,” we will circle the island in the clockwise direction then pause for lunch at the New Seasons Market.  Following lunch, we will return to the start.

The ride begins at Jack Block Park.  Parking, restrooms and water are available at the park.  The park can also be reached by public transportation – take the King County Water Taxi to West Seattle (the park is on Harbor Avenue, to the south of the Water Taxi dock), or put your bike on the Rapid Ride “C” bus and use the first stop in West Seattle, Branford Street, then ride north approximately one mile to the start.  We will leave the park at 10:00 a.m.  Plan to arrive 20 minutes early so we can have time to do introductions and the safety briefing and start on time.

This is a social ride, and we will regroup frequently so that no one is left behind.  The pace is “steady,” which means riders should be comfortable with riding 12-14 mph on a flat road without headwind.  Our average speed for this ride, given stops and starts and hills, will probably be less than the advertised pace.

Steady rain cancels.  If a cancellation is necessary, ride leader will post a notice in the comments section two hours prior to the start and will also send an email to all everyone whose registration includes their email address.  In the event of cancellation, ride leader will not be at the start.

Comments

Allen, will you be taking the ride up to Charleston and California again? If so, about what time do you think you will be there? If it doesn't rain,  I will be on your ride!

Monica:  The ride is starting at Jack Block Park, not Mee-Kaw-Mooks, which is where I've started the ride, to make it longer, in the summer.  You could ride down California and join us there.  Hope to see you tomorrow!  -- Allen

Thanks Allen. I am 50 50 for the ride.  Original forecast had sunshine. Now it has some rain.  I will wait it and see.  If I am not there, have a great ride!

Thanks for letting me know, Monica.  Fingers crossed as to the weather, and I understand if  you decide not to join us!

Thank you all.
It was nice riding with you guys.
Have a good weekend.

Al, sorry we missed you. We traced your route from Mercer Island but never saw you. Somehow, we didn't see the whole trail on Lander and had to go through a parking lot 100 yards north to reach 1st Ave. I suspect you passed us going the other way on that little trail. We rode to the low bridge and waited until 11.

It was nice for the ride leader, too!

By cutting off when you did, you missed a long delay due to a stopped train.  We rode north to the stadiums to get around it, and when we came south on E. Marginal, it was still there!

Sorry we did not connect, Bruce.  We left Jack Block on the dot of 10:00 were past the low bridge by 10:20 or so.  We reached Lander at not later than 10:45, where we followed the tortuous pedestrian path by the construction project over to the Sodo Bike Path paralleling the busway.

I hope you and Judy had a good ride anyway -- what a great day.  I look forward to our riding together in the near future!

I think I see the problem. Your route map shows you coming up 6th Ave, not the bike trail so we rode south on 6th.

Bruce, I thought I had corrected the Ride with GPS route to show use of the bike path in Sodo, as well as including comments in the cue sheet about the construction area, but obviously (having looked at it again) that was not the version of the ride to which I linked in the posting of the ride.  Sorry for the confusion.

Well, the registration date just passed and I was actually looking forward to get registered here. I wanted to know about hnd assignments but I wasn't sure that I'd know about it from this site. I should've come here earlier.
