LUMPs: North Loop of Lake Washington via 520 from Matthews Beach
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail (BGT) via Bothell, east on to Woodinville and then south to Redmond. We will then ride west along the Highway 520 bike trail and continue on over the Evergreen Point floating bridge. We will then ride north past Husky Stadium and return to Matthews Beach via the BGT. See the map for the route. Helmets and a functioning bicycle are required.
Ride start: Please arrive 20 minutes before the start of the ride. Check in with the ride leader to sign or be checked off on the liability waiver. We will have the safety briefing before leaving on the ride. Water and restrooms are available at the start location.
Route: Come have fun and enjoy this social bike ride along the Burke Gilman Trail. Restrooms available at Logboom Park in Lake Forest Park, Wilmot Park in Woodinville, Marymore Park in Redmond and at the Univ of Washington if needed. The terrain is fairly flat but some hill climbing west of Redmond on the 520 section.
Fenders: If the roads are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry.
Parking: Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot. Arrive early to beat the sea gulls for a good parking spot.
Pace: The pace is steady at 12 to 14 mph.
Food: Bring food or snacks to eat on the ride, there will be no lunch break.
Mechanical: Be prepared if you have a mechanical problem e.g. flat tire. Bring a spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump and skills to fix flats, and have a mobile phone and a plan for rescue in case your bike fails.
Cue sheets: No cue sheets will be provided. A Ride With GPS map file and cue sheet are available at the link, below. If you want a cue sheet, please print it and bring it along.
Register - Please RSVP by clicking on the red "Register Now" button under the ride title above. This will save us time at the start. Note that the on-line RSVP requires a Cascade Bicycle Club account, which is easy to set up, but if you don't want one of those just come anyway and sign the hard-copy attendance and hold-harmless (waiver) sheet.
Weather cancellation: The listed phone number will not be answered on the day of the ride. If "Showers cancel" conditions exist on ride day, I will not go to the start. In that case, I'll post a ride-canceled message in the Comments block below, not later than two hours prior to start time. Ice, frost/snow or sub-freezing temperatures that makes driving to the start unwise also will cancel. If the weather looks iffy, check here before leaving for the ride.
