FRUMPS - Cedar River Trail to 4 Corners return Sweeny Rd/196th
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
This week the regular Friday FRUMPS group heads south on one of my favorite routes. I learned this route from my mentor,Terry Lehr-Franks, who learned it from retired ride leader Susan Mokler. There are plenty of hills but we will regroup at the top of major hills. From the Renton Community Center we head out the riparian Cedar River Trail to Cedar Grove and Lake Francis Rd for our first rest stop (mile 12). We follow bucolic back roads to Ravensdale (mile 19). At Four Corners our lunch stop is at S'wiched (mile 21). See menu options in the link below. After lunch we will cruise the meandering curves through the Rock Creek Natural Area. Our return route will be via Sweeny Rd and 196th for a thrilling descent to the Cedar River, then some fun downhill rollers on beautiful Jones Road. Water and indoor restrooms are in the Community Center at the start.
What to bring: Supplies and tools to fix a flat, cell phone for plan B, water bottle, pocket snacks and money for lunch.
Start: Arrive in time to prepare your bike, use the restroom and be ready to hear the SMART ride safety briefing at 9:50 am as we will depart at 10:00 am.
Restrooms: Start, Lake Francis Park (mile 12), Ravensdale Park (mile 19), Lunch (mile 21)
Cancellation: In the event of showers or unsafe conditions, the ride leader will not be at the start but will post a cancellation notice in the comments section of this posting by 8:00 am on the day of the ride. It is always wise to check the ride comments before you drive to the start of a ride. Rain during the ride could modify the route.
Register: If you have a Cascade account, preregister online by selecting the red [Register Now] button at the top of this posting. If your plans change you do not need to unregister. You may also sign the Cascade waiver at the ride start.
Cue sheet: Print your own map/cue sheet if you would like one from the RWGPS link below.
