Ride Description:

Cycle the Gap is a series of six Saturday rides beginning July 13 (following the conclusion of 2019 Cascade Training Series (CTS)) to help riders prepare for the RSVP, RAW, and other challenging rides.  We have chosen six of the best rides from the CTS series to ride again (it is possible that the route could be modified due to construction, etc.; so please check the comments section to obtain the final route).  We will have two different paces (Yellow/Steady, 12-14 mph on flats and Green/Moderate, 14-16 mph on flats).  These are part of the club’s Free Group Rides program and are open to everyone.  Join us for one, or two rides, or be a real trooper and ride all six.  You decide what works for you.

Registration:  Please be sure to register on the club page by clicking the red Register Now button at the top of the page at least 24 hours before the ride start.  That will really help us at the start of the ride.  We try to have at least two or three ride leaders per pace, and your registering helps us know if we need to secure additional ride leaders.

The Route for the Day:  Due to the Renton River Days taking place this weekend, the route and start location have been changed to completely avoid Renton!!!  The third ride of the series will add some mileage and climbing; covering 73 miles with a minimum of 2900 feet of elevation gain.  The ride will start at Kent-James Street Park and Ride, and combines elements of two of CTS’ signature rides, Kent-Enumclaw and Flaming Geyser.  We will be riding through a variety of countryside roads from quiet woods to open farmland and residential areas.  This ride will have two food stops...however, please bring enough food and water (and electrolytes) for the ride.

Ride With GPS Link and Cue Sheet:  The tentative links to these are below.  Final links, or confirmation of these, will be posted in the comments section on this page the Tuesday before the ride.

The Basics:  As customary for all Cascade rides, please make sure you wear a helmet and have necessary gear and knowledge to fix any flats you may get along the way.  The group will not stop to repair flats or mechanical issues, but the sweeps will ensure you have a cue sheet to continue the ride.

These rides are not supported.  There will be short rest stops and a food stop along the route; come prepared with your own food and beverages.

Please arrive 20 minutes early to hear the safety briefing, sign the waiver and to ensure you are ready to ride on time.

Greetings Everyone and Happy Friday:  I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.  The weather forecast for tomorrow will be 40% chance of showers in the morning (from the start of the ride until after 9am), then it'll be partly sunny/cloudy skies for the rest of the ride.  With that said, I would suggest for you all to place fenders at least at the back of your bike (if you don't have fenders at the start, you'll be ask to ride on the back of the group...this would be only at the beginning of the ride).  The temperature for tomorrow will be the mid 70s (temperature at the start of the ride would be in the mid 60s)...please make sure to dress accordingly and bring enough food and water for the  beginning of the ride and between the water and food stops.  Make sure to hydrate and carb-load for today.

Make sure to be at the correct starting location, which is at the Kent-James St P&R; and be early enough that you have yourself and your bike ready to start rolling at 8:30am sharp.  The route and cue sheet are correct and final; make sure to bring a hard copy of the cue sheet and have the route stored in your bike computer.

Thank you!

I have printed out 2 copies of the waiver form; one for the steady group and the other for the moderate group.  If you have not electronically signed the waiver (or I don't see you name due to signing it late this evening or early tomorrow morning, you can manually sign it (it would have to be your printed name, phone number, emergency phone number and your'll be on the very last page for each group).  Thank you! :-)
