Finding Comfort on the Roads - Woodinville to Edmonds
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
Want to feel more comfortable riding on the roads? Ready to move off the trails, but feel a bit nervous sharing the road with cars and obstacles? Wondering how to maintain a particular pace or how to climb hills without exhausting yourself? If so, this is the ride for you! Each week we're taking different routes throughout the eastside as well as into Seattle, providing a variety of opportunities to work on different aspects of road riding and ask questions.
NOTE: This ride is for those riders experienced riding their bikes, but who would like have a more comfortable on road experience and develop stronger riding skills. It is not suitable for those new to riding. Experienced road riders are welcome to join us!
This week we ride from Woodinville to Edmonds where we will have a break for snack/late breakfast at the Red Twig Cafe. This is a hillier ride than the last three, providing an opportunity to work on climbing technique. We'll talk about ascending and descending, how to use gears as well as the hills to your benefit, body positioning, and more. Have other questions about road riding? Feel free to those as well. Don't worry, it's not all hills...we'll get some breaks along the way.
We'll maintain a steady pace (12-14mph) on the flats, slower on the uphills, and faster on the downhills, regrouping as necessary.
Riders should bring tools and knowledge to repair flats. For the comfort of the group and yourself, please have fenders if it is wet out or there is a chance of rain in the forecast. If you do not have fenders you will need to ride in the back.
Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early in order to prepare yourself and your bike prior to safety briefing. Ride starts at 9:00.
We'll meet across from Wilmot Gateway Park at the Woodinville Sports Fields parking at the south end of the fields. Public restrooms are available at the start.
