On July 9, over 50 ships will re-enact the1917 inauguration of the Lake Washington Ship Canal and the boat parade led by the SS Theodore Roosevelt. We'll begin at Gas Works Park, ride to Shilshole to see the boats waiting below the Locks, and then follow them through the Hiram M. Chittendem Locks to South Lake Union Park where a small festival will mark the occasion. We'll stop along the way at strategically located view points to learn from interpreters the significance of the Locks and some of the important sites along the Canal such as Seattle Light's 1912 electric generating plant and Bill Boeing's first launch site.
