A Soggy Good Time at Lake Union Family Ride

The inaugural Lake Union Family Ride on Sunday (Sept. 13) was a soggy--and sunny--success.
The mostly flat, seven-mile route started and ended in Gas Works Park, following the Cheshiahud Lake Union route named for last chief of the Duwamish tribe on Lake Union.
Designed to be easy for people of all ages, the ride included snack stops, face painting, miniature wooden boat crafting, and even more snacks. While early morning rain dampened the start, the soggy weather gave parents and kids an opportunity to bust out their colorful rain boots and gear in advance of November's Ride in the Rain Month festivities.
The sun burst through and skies cleared by noon, allowing people to go slowly and enjoy the rest stop at MOHAI in South Lake Union, where kids colored miniature wooden boats and guzzled chocolate milk.
Older kids biked the entire route, while parents with tiny tots pedaled cargo bikes carrying their children.
Cascade created the Lake Union Family Ride to give busy parents an opportunity to go for a safe and accessible ride with young kids. We hope to return with an even bigger and better family ride in 2027 as part of our mission to spread the joy of bicycling.
