In 2020, there are more ways to engage in bike advocacy and build skills to make the change you want to see in your community. First training is in March and applications are open.
Do you care about bicycling and want to be a more effective organizer in your community? Are you interested in learning how to mobilize your neighbors and friends to stand up for important bicycling projects that will make our streets great, safe places to ride? Do you want to learn how to speak up on issues that you care about? If the answer to these questions is yes, then we have great news for you. Cascade is now accepting applications for our Advocacy Leadership Institute!
Advocacy Leadership Institute (ALI) is a training for people just like you who want to gain skills, confidence, knowledge, and connections to effectively advocate for people who bike (or want to).
2020 Training Schedule - Save the dates and apply now!
This year, Cascade will be hosting three training cohorts throughout the year:
-
March 7 and March 21: for Seattle-area advocates. APPLY TODAY
-
April 26-27 (at the Washington Bike, Walk, and Roll Summit in Spokane -- registration coming soon)
-
June 13 and 27: for Puget Sound-area advocates (registration coming soon)
-
September 13, 26 (registration coming soon)
Each ALI training brings together 20-25 people who are interested in gaining or deepening skills to make changes in their community for the better. Whether it’s building new and inclusive community around biking, or building a bike network for safer streets, ALI gives people new ideas, sparks new relationships, and builds up the people powered movement necessary for safer streets and better biking.
What’s involved?
In these trainings we’ll explore the power of our stories, learn how to craft campaigns and actions that affect change, gain tools on how to interact with and use media to promote projects, and hear from awesome guest speakers.
Where can it take me?
ALI alum help make our entire region more bike friendly and safe. Our alum lead grassroots bike advocacy organizations and sit on city wide boards, committees, and neighborhood associations like the Seattle Bike Advisory Board, Move Seattle Oversight Committee, West Seattle Bike Connections, Beacon Hill Safe Streets, Kirkland Greenways, and more!
But don’t take our word for it
"ALI has helped me grow professionally in ways I would have never guessed. The lessons I learned to become a bicycle advocate helped develop my confidence to speak up for things I am passionate about, share my story, and connect with others who also hope to boost our built environment onto a more progressive path. This can only be done by advocating for the increase in cycling infrastructure and decrease of our dependence on non-renewable resources."
-Marisa Hagney, ALI grad
