** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

Cascade Bicycle Club opens registration for Emerald Bike Ride presented by Kaiser Permanente to be held on Sunday, May 28.

The new once-in-a-lifetime route for Memorial Day weekend event gives bike riders exclusive access to the SR 520 bridge, I-5 Express Lanes AND NOW I-90 Express Lanes

SEATTLE, Wash. March 7, 2017 - Cascade Bicycle Club today announced details and opened registration for the new 24-mile Emerald Bike Ride presented by Kaiser Permanente to be held on Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, May 28. Last year’s inaugural Emerald City Bike Ride gave people the chance to bike across the SR 520 bridge and the I-5 Express Lanes without vehicle traffic. The 2017 Emerald Bike Ride will build off of that amazing route, opening the I-90 Express Lanes to bike riders in addition to the 520 bridge and I-5 Express Lanes, all closed to vehicle traffic. This will be the largest city-streets bike ride in the region with 10,000 bicyclists. Last year’s ride sold out quickly at more than 7,000 registered riders.

“This year’s Emerald Bike Ride route is a once-in-a-lifetime biking opportunity,” said David Douglas, senior director of events at Cascade Bicycle Club. “Biking on the SR 520 bridge, I-5 Express Lanes and I-90 Express Lanes will likely never happen again, and we’re excited to give people the amazing opportunity to experience the region like never before.”

The updated route will include two options: the official 24-mile Emerald Bike Ride route and the 10-mile I-5 Experience Ride. The official 24-mile Emerald Bike Ride route will start at CenturyLink Field then head north on the I-5 Express Lanes, east on the SR 520 bridge, south through Medina and Bellevue, west on the I-90 Express Lanes, finishing up back at CenturyLink Field with the finish festival at Pyramid Brewing. The shorter 10-mile I-5 Experience Ride will be a north-to-south loop on the I-5 Express Lanes, starting and finishing at the same location.
