Generally when I think about bicycling, I think about freedom. I can go anywhere, anytime. But dangit, they're hard to move around a city when not pedaling.
For thirteen long blocks, the bike that typically frees my soul felt more like a ball and chain.
Let's face it, bikes are made for pedaling. So pedal them when you can. And for when you can't, you don't have to feel weighed down.
Uber, the mobile app and service connecting drivers and riders, just unveiled a new service in Seattle, UberPEDAL.
UberPEDAL launched Friday, Oct. 10, bringing together old technologies – the car and bike rack – with the new technology of the smartphone. Using the Uber app, you can hail a ride for you and your steed.
According to Uber representatives, UberPEDALwas inspired by Seattleites love of bicycles, "as we've heard from users across the Seattle area, sometimes the situation calls for more than two wheels. Torrential downpour, too many beers – we've all been there before."
It just takes a few clicks and taps to set-up.
"UberPEDAL is just one more resource that will make getting around by bike a flexible and efficient transportation solution in Seattle. Not only was it super simple to choose the UberPEDAL option, but the car came equipped with a rack that was quick and easy to load my bike on and a driver that was willing and able to help!"
- Holly Houser, UberPEDAL user and executive director of Pronto Cycle Share
UberPEDAL launched just days before Pronto Cycle Share. These two services are giving us more reasons to ride and a plan B for when we can't.
