Beat the I-5 Bottleneck!

Traffic through Seattle is difficult anytime of year, but during summer of 2025, it will be exceptionally difficult. Read on for resources on how to get around by bike and beat the bottleneck!

Construction on the northbound Ship Canal Bridge along I-5 will seriously impact travel this summer. The interstate will be closed from Yesler Way to Northeast 45th street as crews resurface the deck and repair joints. Expect major delays July 18-21; July 21-Aug. 15; and Aug. 15-18.

Additionally, you will see a two lane reduction in general purpose traffic Monday through Friday from July 21 to Aug. 15. During this time, you'll have much greater success traveling by bike instead of by car!

We're here to help! For new bike commuters, those returning, or those who just want to try a new route, Cascade has gathered options for you to explore your community by bike. Beat the I-5 bottleneck by flipping your trip from four wheels to two wheels!

Fun Fact: Did you know that Seattle Department of Transportation has built 34 miles of protected bike lanes, 75 miles of  painted bikes lanes, and 54 miles of neighborhood greenways?
