Ride with Senior Ladies On Wheels (SLOW) to explore secret street-end beaches and other hidden public delights. All riders of all ages and identities welcome, as long as you ride SLOW!
Let's meet at the Jimi Hendrix Park, in the parking lot to the right as you approach from Massachusetts. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We'll go through the I-90 tunnel and ride through Colman Park to Lake Washington Blvd. A section of the Blvd may be closed to traffic, but part of the way we'll share the road with cars. People who drive there expect bikes and are reasonably courteous. We'll pause in Madison Park to buy a snack (or bring one!); then we'll picnic at a very special secret beach (no nude bathers, btw). On these rides the slowest rider sets the pace - don't worry, we won't hurry! There's no shame in getting off your bike awhile to climb a hill or just to take in the scenery.
This is Cascade Bicycle Club Free Group Ride. It's a social ride with experienced ride leaders to grow your confidence with group riding. It is free and open to everyone. We'll stop several times to admire the scenery.
"Easy Pace" is under 10 mph on flat surface without any headwind. Average walking speed is around 3 mph, so we will be about 3 times faster! If you aren't sure about your pace, please join us anyway. We will help you find your way back if you need to return to the start early. Carrying ORCA card is another good option.
You should dress appropriately for the weather, but you do not need spandex or other specialized bike gear. All you need is a working bike and a helmet. If you haven't ridden your bike for quite some time, please do a ABC Check (see link) or take it to your local bike shop a few days prior to the ride date.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
