Sunday Morning Two Lakes Lap
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join a 38-mile ride along the west side of Lake Sammamish and the east side of north Lake Washington. We'll ride on King County's excellent multiuse trail system and streets. This clockwise route goes south on the Sammamish River Trail, West Lake Sammamish, then back to Bothell via Beaux Arts, Medina, and Kirkland.
This route has hilly and rolling terrain after we get off the Sammamish River Trail. There is one challenging hill west of West Lake Sammamish. Depending on interest we may add a hilly detour between I-90 and Hwy 520. We'll stop to regroup as needed on the tops of the hills. After descents, we'll coast or soft-pedal until the group reforms.
We start from Wayne Park and roll at a brisk (less than or equal to 18mph) *effort level* when on streets. About a third of this ride is on multiuse trails which have a speed limit of 15mph. We may roll at up to 18mph on the flats when not on the trail system. The Sammamish River Trail is typically busy on Sunday mornings and we will ride in a way that respects all trail users.
There will be a brief stop at a Kiosk on the I-90 trail at mile ~22. Be prepared to drink and snack while riding.
There are restrooms at Blyth Park on the east side of the Burke Gilman Tunnel which is at the east end of the Wayne Park parking lot. There are also restrooms near the west side of Mercer Island and we will stop there if necessary. Arrive early if you need to use the bathroom before we start.
Meet on the Burke Gilman Trail on the west side of the Wayne Park parking lot. Be ready to ride at 8:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
There is plenty of parking at Wayne Park and Red Brick Road Park which adjacent to Wayne Park on the north side of the Burke Gilman Trail.
Be prepared to fix a flat or deal with minor mechanical issues.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
