Five Cities on the Lake
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join us for a 37-mile ride at a steady pace.
Our route will circumnavigate the southern part of Lake Washington -- all the Lake south of I-90, transiting five of the 11 cities that have Lake Washington shoreline. We'll begin at Jack Block Park in West Seattle and head south on the Duwamish Trail, the Green River Trail and the Black River Trail. After riding through downtown Renton on city streets, we'll stop briefly at Gene Coulon Park (mile 17), then head north along the east side of the Lake, following Lake Washington Boulevard and portions of the Eastrail. We'll cross the East Channel to Mercer Island on the I-90 bike path. After a lunch stop in downtown Mercer Island (mile 26), we'll return to the start, crossing Lake Washington on I-90 and descending gradually along Dearborn Street and Jackson Street, then following the bike path along East Marginal Way. By completion of the ride, our route will have touched on the cities for which this ride is named (Seattle, Renton, Newcastle, Bellevue and Mercer Island, reaching the end point in Seattle where we started).
Let's meet at the Jack Block Park and please be ready to ride at 9:45. We will start with the required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
There are very few hills on this route. We will climb and descend those hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together.
Restrooms and water are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at Gene Coulon Beach Park (mile 17). Lunch will be in the Mercer Island business district (mile 26).
If you are driving to the start from outside of West Seattle, parking is available at Jack Block Park. Or consider public transportation (West Seattle Water Taxi or the Rapid Ride, C line, both of which have regular service).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
