Crossing the Sound and Riding to Port Orchard for Lunch
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Please join us for a ride from Southworth to Port Orchard, with lunch at approximately the halfway point.
We'll begin the day by sailing from West Seattle to Southworth on a Washington State ferry and from there ride to Port Orchard, along the way making a short side trip to explore a bit of Manchester State Park.
This is a beautiful ride on quiet roads, mostly along the water. It is mostly flat with just a few hills. We'll have lunch on the Port Orchard waterfront, either at Peninsula Beverage Co. or at the Saturday Farmers Market. We'll return by the same route, minus the side trip. Bring money for the ferry and for lunch. Water and restrooms are available at the start, and on the boat. And bring some camel chow.
Note: The ferry schedule on the run to Southworth is limited. We'll plan on taking the ferry that departs at 9:55 a.m. If you miss the ferry you will not be on the ride. This means that you should arrive 20 minutes before sailing so you can have time to purchase your ticket, or have your Orca card scanned, and be ready to board with foot passengers and other bikes for the 9:55 a.m. sailing.
Ride through the ferry tollbooth and go directly to the ticket office at the end of the dock to purchase your ticket. Water and restrooms are available at the start. We'll do the safety briefing after disembarking in Southworth. Be prepared if you have a mechanical problem, e.g., flat tire.
Parking: We recommend parking in the UPPER parking lot at Lincoln Park (the first parking lot that you come to). From there, you can ride down the hill to the ferry dock (approximately .8 mile). Avoid the lower Lincoln Park lot, which has a time limit that is enforced. Or put your bike on the Rapid Ride "C" line, which has a stop at the Fauntleroy ferry dock.
Weather cancelation: - Showers, snow, icy conditions or more severe weather, or other unforeseen circumstances that would make the ride unsafe, will cancel the ride. Ride cancelation will be announced in the comments section at least two hours before start time, and the ride leader will not be at the start.
