Northeast Seattle History Ride (2023 version)

Join us for a history ride from Lower Woodland Park on a 18.8 mile route around northeast Seattle at a Leisurely (10-12 mph average on flat ground) pace!

We will meet outside the brick restroom building next to the baseball/soccer fields at the east parking lot of Lower Woodland Park (5100 Green Lake Way N, Seattle, WA 98103). Bike access is from the Green Lake Outer Loop. Parking can be found in the adjacent parking lot. Transit access is from King County Metro Bus routes 44, 45, 62, and RapidRide E each with stops about a mile away or from the 1 Line light rail Roosevelt Station about 2 miles away.

Please be ready to ride at 9:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

There are a total of 11 short stops on this ride during which the ride leader will tell a story about the history/geography/etc. for a couple of minutes. We will take a restroom & water break at Matthews Beach Park (mile 8.5). There are restrooms near the start in Lower Woodland Park.

The route is mostly on paved roads and trails with about a mile on packed gravel.

Please note: due to all of the starts/stops, this ride is expected to last around 3.5 hours (estimated finish around 1:00 pm).

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
