Blue Angels Ride (Moderate)

The Blues are back! For the second year the Blues will be flying their bigger, faster and louder F/A 18 Super Hornets.
We'll take a  hilly tour of Mercer Island, including roads and trails seldom seen, before arriving at a prime viewing area roof deck around mile 16.   We should arrive before the Blues but there are preliminary flights including Fat Albert. After the show we'll ride back to the starting point less than 2 miles away. Coffee and cold water will be provided during the show but bring your own snacks. Fair warning: This ride is at least as much about the Blues as the cycling. Your non-riding significant other is welcome to join us on the deck to watch the show.

The Blue Angels aren't scheduled to fly until 3:30pm but with the earlier flying events this year, It's not clear when the Mercer Island P&R will fill up. If it's full, you can use nearby streets, the Mercer Island Community center, or either parking lot at Luther Burbank Park and ride to the start. 

Let's meet near the entrance of the Mercer Island Park & Ride and please be ready to ride at 1:00pm. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

No rest room at the start but we'll stop at Aubrey Davis Park restrooms before mile 1.

Be prepared to deal with flat tires and mechanicals and have a plan to take yourself back to the start if your bike can’t get you there; and/or to ride alone if you are significantly faster or slower than the listed pace.

Please have fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group. 

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
