TREATS: Newcastle Beach Park to Alki

Join us for a ride from Newcastle Beach Park on a 39 mile route at a Moderate Pace (14-16 mph on the flat)!

We'll plan to cross Mercer Island and then head across downtown Seattle toward the West Seattle area including Alki Point. We'll have a brief rest stop on the way out at mile 5.3. Our coffee stop will be at the Starbucks on Alki Avenue at mile 18.4. Our rest stop on the return will be at approximately mile 33.8 on Mercer Island.  I have put in a short excursion to a view point at Jack Block Park at mile 15.3. Please note that there is on-going construction activities on Mercer Island and along the downtown Seattle waterfront. We'll plan to stay together in those sections as our route may be slightly modified based on emerging construction detours which we can't predict.

Let's meet at the parking lot at Newcastle Beach Park and please be ready to ride at 10:00am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup occasionally except as noted above. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).

Restrooms and water are available at the start.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case, as we will be in areas of Seattle which have less than perfect road surfaces. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
