South Seattle Infrastructure Tour

Let's check out some new and future bike infrastructure (including new bike runnels) in South Seattle on a 7.4 mile loop at a Leisurely (10-12 mph average on flat ground) pace!

We will meet at the east-side patio at Cafe Red (7148 MLK Jr. Way S., Seattle, WA 98118). Bicycle access is about 2-3 blocks off the Chief Sealth Trail or Rainier Valley N-S Neighborhood Greenway. Parking can be found on adjacent neighborhood streets like 42nd Ave S. Transit access is from the Othello light rail station across the street or King County Metro bus routes 36, 50, and 106.

We'll start gathering at 9:30 AM at Cafe Red for breakfast and coffee. Please be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

There are a total of 9 short stops on this ride during which the ride leader will share some information on each infrastructure project. We will take an optional restroom & water/snack break at the Atlantic City Boat Ramp (mile 2.8).

The route is mostly on paved roads and trails with a short segment on packed gravel. There is one section where we will dismount and push our bicycles up a series of newly installed bike runnels (alongside stairs), but an optional uphill detour is available.

Please note: due to all of the starts/stops, this ride is expected to last around 2 hours (estimated finish after 12:00 pm).

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
