TREATS: Newcastle Beach to Maple Valley to Renton

Come join us for a primarily back-road 40-mile social ride from Newcastle through scenic May Valley and Cedar Grove to Maple Valley for lunch.  We’ll start at Newcastle Beach Park south of Bellevue (take Exit 9 off I-405).  There are restrooms and water available at the start, restroom stops at Mile 11 and 30, and lunch at QFC in Maple Valley.  There is a Starbucks inside the QFC. Our return route will be mostly flat using the Cedar River Trail (Maple Valley to Renton) and the Eastrail Multi-use Corridor (Renton to Newcastle). 

Please be ready to ride at 10 AM.  We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing, you will not be able to ride with the group.  

This is a Steady paced ride, 12-14 mph on the flats in the absence of wind. We'll limit our speed on multi-use trails to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).  We’ll climb and descend hills with each rider at their own pace, and we’ll regroup frequently.

We won’t be able to wait long for anyone substantially off the pace. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own.

Be prepared with the equipment (including a spare tube) and knowledge to take care of your own flats and mechanicals, and a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there. If you have a problem the group will stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we may not be able to wait for repairs to be completed.

At Mile 13 we'll be on a gravel and rough dirt trail for about 50 yards.  Dismounting is suggested.

Steady rain cancels. If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
