Free Group Ride
FRUMPS: South Whidbey NOTE 9:30 start
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Paine Field Community Park on a 50ish mile route at steady pace! (Note the GPS route is longer because it counts the ferry ride.)
We will ride down to the ferry terminal with plenty of time to catch the 10:30 ferry, cross to Whidbey, then do a loop around the south part of the island. The route is hilly (and beautiful), but don't be afraid of Whidbey; the longest steepest hill is back up to the start after the return ferry ride.
Let's meet at the Paine Field Community Park and please be ready to ride at 9:30 am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently.
Restrooms are available at the start. Plan on using the ferry facilities, because once on Whidbey; there are no options for about 21 miles after we arrive on Whidbey. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at Freeland Payless Foods (GPS mile 30), which has deli, bakery and coffee options as well as groceries.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: Due to the ferry effort with this ride, it's worth waiting for a nice day. Persistent showers may result in a ferry-free rain route substitution with 2 hrs advance notice. If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
