Gravel Ride--Snoqualmie Tunnel

Join us for this 42-mile gravel ride from Rattlesnake Lake to the Snoqualmie Pass Tunnel and back. This ride is entirely on the gravel surface Palouse to Cascades Trail.

We will ride at an effort equivalent to moderate pace (14-16 mph) on pavement, actual pace will likely be slower on unpaved sections.

The route starts with a gradual (1-2%) climb on the Palouse to Cascades Trail to the Snoqualmie Pass Tunnel. We will then proceed through the tunnel to the Hyak trailhead and return the way we came.

A bike suitable for riding on gravel is required for this ride. Tires 32mm or wider are recommended. Riders should bring tools and knowledge to repair flats and minor mechanicals.

The tunnel is just over 2 miles long. Bring a headlight and jacket; it will be cold and dark.

We will stop for a bring your own picnic lunch at the Hyak trailhead (mile 21) where there is water and toilets.There is an vault toilet at the start but no water. There are a few other vault toilets along the Palouse to Cascades trail. Carry plenty of water and food as there are no other places to get water on this ride.

We will meet at the Cedar Falls Trailhead for the Palouse to Cascades Trail. A Discover Pass is required to park at the trailhead. There may be free parking available at nearby Rattlesnake Lake. Please be ready to ride at 9:00am. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing, you will not be able to ride with the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
