Free Group Ride
Training Ride # 2 for Cascade's "Ride to Bellingham and Back" Event.
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Haller Park in Arlington on a 59 mile route at Steady Pace (12-14 MPH)!
This will be the 2nd ride of a short series allowing cyclists to maintain their endurance training in anticipation of the Ride from Redmond to Bellingham and Back (R2B2). You are welcome to join even if you didn't do the first ride.
We will ride from Arlington to Burlington on the northbound portion of the R2B2 Route, and return using the southbound (2nd day) route. Lots of climbing and rolling ascents on the northbound portion of this ride. The return portion is mostly flat through farmland, for the first 2/3 of this part of the ride, with a long, but not arduous, climb before we get to the Nakashima Barn.
Let's meet at Haller Park near the Centennial Trail and please be ready to ride at 08:30. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group. Also, please look over the Route Map in advance.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at mile 18, Conway at mile 43 and Nakashima Barn at mile 52 We’ll also stop for lunch at Burlington Crossroads at mile 27. Whidbey Coffee Company is there, and a Starbucks is nearby for those that prefer. There are a couple of optional rest stops available, but not formally entered into the route. Plan to bring extra water, as there are significant portions of the ride with limited rest stops and other services.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
