Free Group Ride
Olallie Trail Climb - Mountain Bike
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride at Olallie, near Rattlesnake Lake in North Bend, on a 14.7 mile route (80% singletrack) at a Super Strenuous [22mph+] pace. We won't actually be traveling that fast since we're on mountain bikes but the required effort will be that demanding! If you're a strong climber but concerned about falling behind on the downhills, don't be. The dynamics of group mountain bike riding is different and waiting for descenders is no problem. Safety first!
This ride's attractions are some flowy and mostly groomed sections, and beautiful mountain top vistas! The average grade is 7% with a maximum of 31%. To many, it's the epitome of mountain biking in our area.
Let's meet at the Cedar Falls Trailhead parking lot and please be ready to ride at 9am. A Discover Pass is required to park in the parking lot but you could leave your car outside the park, about 0.5 mile down the road from the starting point, to avoid that requirement. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup occasionally. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH). We will be mindful and cautious of walkers, horses, and other path users by always using our voice before passing at a controlled and courteous pace.
A toilet is available at the start. We will not stop along the way for restrooms/water.
Equipment: a mountain bike with suspension will be the best choice for this ride. A cross or gravel bike with knobby tires 32mm or wider could work but it would complicate your descent. A road bike with road tires is not recommended. Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. If you have a mechanical and can not ride or coast on your bike, walking back to the trailhead will be your only option. Depending on your cell phone carrier, service is likely, but not guaranteed. Fenders are optional.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
