A Spring Ride Along the Duwamish
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
This ride offers a chance to appreciate the new growth that gives a pleasing green cast to trees and shrubs along the river. Occasionally, tulips and marigolds can be seen in bloom along with way. As an additional feature, at Mile 7.5 we may detour to briefly explore a new riverfront public access trail (see photo, below) on the periphery of a major Amazon fulfillment center.
If you plan to drive to the start from outside of West Seattle, allow extra time because the major West Seattle Bridge is closed and you will need a different route. Jack Block Park can also be reached via the Rapid Ride “C” bus (use the first stop in West Seattle). Parking, restrooms and water are available at the start. We may stop at Starfire Sports (Mile 13), where restrooms and water are also available. On our trip back to the start, we will make a coffee stop at a Starbucks (Mile 15.5). Bring a spare tube in case of flats and whatever else you might need to address mechanical issues.
This Is a social ride, and we will stay together. The pace is “steady,” which means riders should be comfortable with riding 12-14 mph on a flat road without headwind. Our average speed on the ride will be less than the listed pace, because the route is occasionally punctuated by traffic lights and railroad tracks.
Steady rain cancels. If a cancellation is necessary due to rain or other unforeseen circumstances making it unsafe to ride, ride leader will post a notice in the comments section two hours prior to the start.
