South Hill to Swan Creek Park

Join us for a ride from Heritage Recreation Center on a 27.5 mile route at moderate pace, 14-16mph!

This will be a bit of an adventure ride as we traverse parts of three trails and a short section of off-road (wide tires not absolutely necessary), and check out some of the improvements to Swan Creek Park.  We'll leave the Rec Center and go along the West entrance road of Pierce College before making our way to the Shaw Road trail before dropping down into the valley.  Then we'll head west across Puyallup and out Pioneer with a short steep hill up to the Tacoma Eastside where we will check out some of the new amenities at Swan Creek Park.  Then we'll take a paved portion of the Pipeline Trail and some back roads back to our start.  Just a head's up that in some places shoulders may be non-existent in stretches or littered with debris, and one stretch of road is in poor shape.

Let's meet at the north parking lot off 128th St and please be ready to ride at 9:30am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).

Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at miles 11 or 16.4.

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
