Free Group Ride
Juanita Beach Mercer Island
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Juanita Beach Park on a 39.8 mile route at moderate pace 14-16 mph on the flats!
Ride Description: We will ride through Kirkland, Medina, Bellevue, and Beaux Arts and then around Mercer Island. We will return through Bellevue and Kirkland with a 2-mile section on the unpaved Kirkland Cross Corridor (Eastrail).
Start Time and Location: Let's meet at the Juanita Beach Park next to the bathrooms and please be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Navigation: The planned route/cue sheet is at the link below. The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but we won’t be able to wait too long for anyone substantially off the pace. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own, as the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group.
Restrooms: The family restroom at the start is open in the winter, and water is available at there. If needed, we can stop at the restrooms at Kirkland Marina Park at mile 2.
Coffee and Snack Stop: We’ll stop for coffee/snacks at the Mercer Island Starbucks at mile 25.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders on your bike if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group. Full fenders must include buddy flaps that extend to within 2-4 inches off the ground behind the back tire. This is essential to protect the rider behind you from spray.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
