Free Group Ride
REPEAT: Ride Up North #8: Fairhaven-Lummi Island
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Let's meet at the Fairhaven Village Green, Bellingham, and please be ready to ride at 10:00am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group. Note that this ride starts in Bellingham, so please plan your transportation accordingly.
Very important note on parking: Do not park on the street. it is only 2 hour parking. Park in the unimproved gravel parking lot immediately north of the Green.
The RUN (Ride Up North) rides are designed to be incrementally longer and harder as the season develops. This ride is designated #8 in the series. However, do not be dismayed by the elevation profile in the RWGPS: it appears hillier than it really is. The 1900' of elevation is spread among a number of small climbs. The hills are relatively gentle and the route is actually very rider-friendly. I would describe it as "flat to rolling." We will ride to the small ferry that serves Lummi Island and ride 10 easy miles on Lummi.
Lummi has a thriving artists community, working in every medium. If possible, we will stop at one of the studios.
Bring plastic. The ferry is not taking cash right now.
Have a face mask with you on the ride.
Why you could/should do these rides:
- You are new to Cascade Bicycle Club Free Group Rides but you have sufficient conditioning to handle 51 miles and 1900 feet of easy climbing in one day, and can maintain a12 mph pace. (Note that e-bikes are welcome.)
- You are seeking a scenic, stay-together, low-traffic ride out in the country.
- Maybe you are planning on doing STP, RSVP or other multi-day, 50-100 mi/day rides. This is a great prep and conditioning check for those.,
This is a stay-together ride. However, riders may sometimes either fall behind or shoot ahead on hills. These riders will be expected to re-group after their "break away" or "fall behind."
You must pre-register by clicking the red "Register Now" button above. Please un-register if you decide not to attend in order to free a space for another rider.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case.
Cancellation: Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least three hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
Feel free to call me with any questions.
We hope you can join us!
