Free Group Ride
Take in the Views from Lake Union Park!
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Matthews Beach Park on a round trip ride of 21 miles to The Museum of History and Industry in Lake Union Park, Seattle. Steady Pace, 12-14 mph.
Ride Start: Let's meet at the Matthews Beach Park parking lot. Ride briefing starts at 10:00 am. We will roll out when that is finished. You must attend the ride briefing to ride with the group.
Registration: You are required to sign an e-waiver by clicking on the "Register Now" button at the top of this page. Please cancel your registration if you are not able to attend.
Ride Description: Restrooms are available at the start. If requested we can stop for a bio break at Gas Works Park. We’ll stop for a 20-30 min. break for coffee/snacks at the Gourmondo Cafe located in the museum building (separate cafe entrance from the museum). Restrooms are also available. Come sit at outside tables and chairs (optional indoor seating) or on the museum steps and watch all the activity on Lake Union! Watch the floatplanes land and take off, the pirate cruise ship and crew, downtown and Space Needle, paddleboarders and kayakers, or just people watch.
Route: We will start out on the Burke Gilman Trail west to the Fremont bridge. After crossing we will very briefly ride the Ship Canal Trail east to the end. From there we take the Westlake Cycle Track to the Museum of History and Industry.
Cue Sheets: Not listed. As this is a primarily flat ride, we will ride together and regroup if necessary.
Parking: Free parking is available at the Matthews Beach Park lot.
Suggestions: Pack a mask if you wish to enter the cafe. If you choose to sit indoors, you may wish to bring a bike lock. Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Weather Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
If you have questions, please contact the ride leader.
We hope you can join us!
