Free Group Ride
Blyth Park North Lake Loop, Coffee, Perkins Lane
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride from Blyth Park in Bothell on a 33 mile route at moderate pace (14-16 mph) around the north end of Lake Washington, We'll head south through Kirkland, take the 520 trail to the bridge overlook, cross the bridge and have a coffee stop at University Village. The route back includes some Burke Gilman Trail and a lot of Sand Point Way, then further west and north through neighborhoods to get to a fun descent on Perkins Lane back to the Burke Gilman.
Please be at the Blyth Park parking lot, ready to ride, at the date and time noted above. We will start with the required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. Important: If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and will regroup frequently.
Restrooms and water are available at the start. There's an optional restroom/water stop at Kirkland Marina Park at mile 6. The coffee/pastry stop is at mile 15.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case, and have a plan for getting home if your bike fails you. If you have a problem the group may stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we will not wait for repairs to be completed.
Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long, stable mud flaps (ideally 2" and a maximum of 4" from the ground) if rain is possible or the roads are wet. You may still ride without such long fenders and flaps, but if it's wet you will need to ride at the back of the group (behind all bikes with better fenders).
The planned route/cue sheet is at the link below. The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but we won’t be able to wait long for anyone substantially off the pace. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own, as the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
This will be ride leader candidate Dan Ford's second mentored ride. Come out and support Dan's qualification as a certified Cascade ride leader!
We hope you can join us!
