Woodinville to Redmond Town Center for Coffee - the long way
Event has already happened.
Join us for a ride starting from Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville on an approximate 37 mile route at a Steady pace (12-14 mph)! This is a route starting on the Eastside which merges moderate hill climbing with some fairly flat terrain using bike trails, bike lanes, and largely quiet neighborhood streets for most of the route.
Now that our Pacific Northwest Summer is in full swing, it's time to start (or continue) your summer recreational riding! This week we will venture from Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville to Redmond Town Center for coffee via a longer route through Seattle and using the SR520 bike path. We will have a very short rest stop at approximately mile 14 at the Burke-Gilman Playground which has both restrooms and water available on the way to our approximate 25 minute coffee/snack/water/restroom stop at Redmond Town Center (approximately mile 28.4).
A special note for this ride: Washington State DOT has initiated a major repair of the Montlake Bridge which, while closed to car traffic, will be open for pedestrians and bicycles (https://wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr513/montlake-bridge/home) Our plan will be to adjust to the riding conditions at the time. If there is significant congestion (pedestrian and cycle traffic) on the bridge sidewalk, we will elect to walk our bikes across the bridge and resume riding on the other side. It's only a short distance across the bridge and we want to continue to be good ambassadors for cycling to the larger community.
Let's meet at the Wilmot Gateway Park by the tables under the Pergolas in the park at 0930 for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a planned departure right after completion of the Safety Briefing. Please note that you must be a) pre-registered for this ride via the Cascade Bicycle Club website; and, b) you must be present for the safety briefing at 0930, else you won't be able to ride with us.
We will climb and descend the major hills at our own pace and our goal will be to regroup frequently - this is a social ride after all! Faster riders are welcome but for them the ride becomes self-paced. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. Please bring funds appropriate for your needs if you wish to purchase coffee or snacks at Redmond Town Center.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
