Get On Your Bike - Eastside Urban Trail Loop (Gravel)
Event has already happened.
Join us for a beautiful ride along the major trails of the Eastside, starting from 60 Acres Park in Redmond! This is a 18 mile route at Steady pace (12-14 MPH).
This ride is ideal for beginners! It's 90% on dedicated trails. There are some hills, but we'll take them at our own pace and regroup at the top. There is a long gravel trail on this ride, but it's very smooth gravel and any bike should be able to ride it (though wider tires will be more comfortable).
Let's meet at 60 Acres Park at 9:45 AM for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a departure at 10:00 AM. There are portapotties at the start but no water, so bring your water bottles filled up.
NOTE: This is a different parking lot than we've been using in previous weeks. Click here to see a map of its location.
Please note: If you are not present for the full safety briefing, including COVID-19-specific portion, you will not be allowed to ride with us, so please be on time.
The Route
We'll start by riding through the beautiful Sammamish River Trail to downtown Redmond and then do our big climb of the day up the 520 bike trail. We'll pass through the Microsoft campus where we can check the state of the light rail construction and the tunnel under 40th St. We'll take the 520 trail to the end in Bellevue's new Spring District. From there we'll be on the gravel Eastrail which turns into the Kirkland Cross Corridor. We'll have beautiful views of Lake Washington and pass through the Google campus and finally Totem Lake, where we'll be on roads to drop down back to the valley to the end of the ride.
Pace is 12-14mph on the flats (slower on gravel) and we will climb at our own pace and regroup at the top of hills.
Final Words
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
