Free Group Ride
Will Pedal for Chicken (an Auburn-Renton Meander)
Event has already happened.
Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please click the red "Cancel My Registration" button above so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and tissues for use at rest stops.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12ft separation between riders when on the bike.
Come join me for a Saturday cruise up the Green River Valley. We'll roll out of the Auburn High School south lot, and wind our way up to downtown Renton. We'll stop there for a casual lunch, then head back to Auburn. Along the way, we'll take a mixture of trails and roadways up both sides of the Green River.
The suggested lunch stop is Yummy Meats and Deli, a very informal pickup window fronting a parking lot off of S 3rd St. Full disclosure; there's no formal seating, we'll just be hanging out along the edge of the fenced parking lot, keeping proper social distance and chowing. A hint; the Spicy Nashville Chicken Sandwich is amazing, and you can get it as mild or hot as you wish. If chicken isn't in your wheelhouse, there are a variety of other options in the area.
Plan to get to the ride start 15 minutes early, so that we can make introductions and go over our safety brief. This is a Moderate paced ride, and with the minimal elevation gain we'll plan to stick together. Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
There are no restrooms at the ride start, but we will plan to stop at Brannan Park (mile 3) on the way up, and at Isaac Evans Park (mile 42) on the way back down.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
See you on Saturday!
