Free Group Ride
Coffee on the Rocks [Gravel]
Event has already happened.
This is a pleasant social ride for those who are looking for a brisk pace and to get off the roads for a bit. The ride is mostly gravel, and although a road bike *could* feasibly work, I would encourage at least a 32 mm tire width minimum. None of the trails are technical, except for one short (< 100 feet) section which most people will probably walk. There is another steep section as we climb back to Redmond which some may have to walk (but we will regroup at the top). I will be riding with 35 mm tires.
I typically ride Vigorous in other groups, but this will be social pace for those in the Brisk-Vigorous range (i.e. allow for talking). If you are typically moderate paced, this ride will be too fast.
Let's meet at the East Lake Sammamish Trailhead at 9:20 AM for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a departure at 9:30 AM. We won't wait for you if you're late or you miss the safety briefing!
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to stay together but regroup at the top of hills. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop for coffee/snacks at Sandy's Espresso in Carnation at mile 25.
You are encouraged to pre-register by clicking the red "Register Now" button above. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. We will wait for flats, but for serious bike issues (i.e. broken derailleur), we ask that you come prepared to have a backup ride or call for assistance. We'll be on gravel paths/trails for most of trip, but they are all accessible by car in case of an emergency.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
** Steady rain cancels - there is substantial rain in the forecast for Sunday, so please check back Sunday morning for ride on/off status**
