Join us for a ride up and down Whidbey Island on a 94 mile route at a vigorous pace (18 - 20 mph)!
This is one of my favorite rides of the year. Whidbey Island has beautiful scenery and many low-traffic roads. Our route goes through the picturesque towns of Langley and Coupeville, passes by Fort Casey State Park, and has many great views of the shoreline and inland pastures.
We'll park in Mukilteo and walk on to the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry with our bikes. Let's meet at the Mukilteo ferry terminal in time to catch the 8:00 ferry. We'll have our pre-ride briefing when we get to Clinton. The Ferry fare is $6.10 for a passenger and bike.
Parking is sparse in Mukilteo. One place to park is Tails and Trails Dog Park, which is about a mile from the ferry terminal. You can park there and ride your bike down to the ferry.
Restrooms are available at the ferry terminal and on the boat.
We will stop along the way for restrooms and water Whidbey Island State Park at mile 22. At mile 41 we will stop in Coupleville where you can enjoy a pastry at the Kneed and Feed Bakery. At mile 63 we'll stop at the Whidbey Country Store, and if necessary we can stop at the Payless Food store in Freeland at mile 83.
This is a hilly ride. On Whidbey Island the roads mostly go up or down- there isn't much flatness. While you can climb and descend hills at your own pace on major climbs, most of the hills are not very steep so I would like our group to generally stay together.
You are encouraged to pre-register by clicking the red "Register Now" button above. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
