Free Group Ride
Kent to Three Tree Point
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
This ride is half flat and half rolling with some steep hills. It is 35 miles at the Moderate pace (14-16 mph on flat road, no wind) and starts at Hogan Park in Kent. Let's meet at Hogan Park at 8:45 a.m. for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a departure at 9:00 a.m.
We follow the Green River for a while and then ride along Puget Sound for a bit. Much of the route is on bike trail, designated bike lane, or good road shoulder. This ride follows the least difficult climb from the Green River Valley over the ridge that separates the valley from Puget Sound. If the weather is clear you will have a good view of Puget Sound and the Olympics as we ride by Three Tree Point.
Take it easy on the curvy downhill sections. It's easy to get going too fast for conditions on some of the descents, even when it's dry. If you stay behind the ride leader on the downhills you should be OK. Climb the hills at your own pace. If you are a fast climber, please wait at the top for the ride leader to eventually catch up. We will regroup at the top of hill climbs and before any intersections where the turns might not be obvious to the group.
If rain develops during the ride we will change the route to avoid some very steep descents.
Cue Sheet: A RideWithGPS route map and cue sheet is at the link below. If you would like a cue sheet, please print one from the RWGPS site and bring it with you. Bring tools and knowledge to repair flats, and a plan to get home if you have a serious mechanical failure.
Cancellation Policy: The listed phone number will not be answered on the morning of the ride. In event of showers, the Ride Leader will not be at the start. If the weather meets the showers-cancel threshold, a cancellation notice will be posted in the Comments block at least 2 hours prior to the start. Please check here before going to the start if rain is in the forecast.
Restrooms are near the start at Hogan Park. If there are any problems with the Hogan Park restrooms, we can stop at Van Doren's Landing park - mile 1.9.
If the group is interested in a coffee/pastry break we can stop at the Grand Central Bakery in Burien. Otherwise we'll just keep rolling with a couple of pit stops.
Register - Please sign an e-waiver by clicking on the “Register Now” button at the top of this page (right below the ride title) and enter your information. If you cannot make the ride, you do not need to unregister. Or if you decide that morning, just show up and sign the waiver at Hogan Park.
I hope to see you at Hogan Park!
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
