Gravel Ride Over and Under Snoqualmie Pass
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
This ride is mostly on gravel roads and gravel trails with a paved road climb from Denny Creek Campground to the summit of Snoqualmie Pass. There is a brief 2-mile section on the shoulder of I-90. The return route from Snoqualmie Pass is entirely on the Palouse to Cascades Trail (formerly known as the Iron Horse Trail). This includes the 2-mile tunnel under Snoqualmie Pass.
Equipment: A bike suitable for riding on gravel is required for this ride. Tires 32-35 or wider are recommended. Riders should bring tools and knowledge to repair flats and minor mechanicals.
The Tunnel: Bring a headlight and jacket for the tunnel. It will be cold, wet and dark.
Food and Water: We will stop for drinks and snacks at Red Mountain Coffee at Snoqualmie Pass. Carry plenty of water and food as there are no other places to get water on this ride.
Pace: We will ride at a brisk pace (16-18 mph) on pavement and a similar effort level but slower pace on unpaved sections.
Parking: We will meet at the Cedar Falls Trailhead for the Palouse to Cascades Trail. Note: the sign for the trailhead still says "Iron Horse trail." A Discover Pass is required to park at the trailhead. There may be free parking available at nearby Rattlesnake Lake.
Ride Start: Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early in order to prepare yourself and your bike prior to the safety briefing. The ride rolls out promptly at 9:00 am. There is a pit toilet at the start but no water.
Registration: You are encouraged to pre-register by clicking the red "Register Now" button above. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride.
Weather cancellation: Steady rain cancels. If the ride is canceled due to weather or if there are other unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and the Ride Leader will not be at the start location.
