Spring Ride from West Seattle to Kent for Lunch
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
“Spring Ride from West Seattle to Kent for Lunch” takes us along the serpentine banks of the Duwamish River to Fort Dent Park (a/k/a Starfire Sports Center) in Tukwila, where we transition to the bike path (formerly the Interurban streetcar route) to Kent for lunch. The first half of the route is scenic, and the route is flat. This is a relatively long and easy ride (with one short climb on the return trip).
We will leave Jack Block Park at 10:00 a.m. Parking and restrooms are available at the Park. From downtown Seattle, the park can be reached via the Rapid Ride “C” bus (use the first stop, Branford Street, in West Seattle). Plan to arrive 20 minutes early so we can have time to do introductions and the safety briefing and start on time. Bring what you need to address any mechanical issues you might encounter with your bike.
We will stop for lunch at Mexico Lindo in Kent, but there are other eateries nearby (Wild Wheat, Starbucks). On the return ride, we will cycle along a lovely road on the east bank of the Duwamish before rejoining, and finishing up, on the original route.
This is a social ride, and we will stay together. The pace is “steady,” which means riders should be comfortable with riding 12-14 mph on a flat road without headwind. Note that our average speed is likely to be lower. Riders are encouraged to register on line, as this will save time at the start.
Steady rain will cancel. If a cancellation is necessary, ride leader will post a notice in the comments section two hours prior to the start.
