This ride and route will follow the link below. Please see the link for the route map and cue sheet below. The ride leader will not provide a map or cue sheet. If you would like a map and cue sheet please make a copy and bring them with you to the ride.
Route: This route is as follows, we will ride on the Burke Gilman Trail (BGT) east from Gas Works Park, to the intersection of the BGT and Ravenna Place N.E. We will then ride north around the west side of Ravenna Park and then continue west to 15th Ave N.E. We will continue on west and turning south on University Avenue arriving at R & E Bicycle Shop at 5627 University Way N.E. This is where the Bike and Pike Expo occurs. **Note: This is a one way ride ending at R & E Bicycle Shop. Each rider is responsible to return home on their own. This is an urban ride, on bike lanes, trails and city streets.
Bike and Pike Expo: One of the Expo's purposes is as a fundraiser for Northwest Food Lifeline. Cascade ride leader Bill Thorness will be present to talk about cycling the Pacific Coast and the Puget Sound. Willie Weir, adventure cyclist, will be present to discuss cycling gear for long distance touring and cycling. Tours of R & E's bicycle building frame shop will be available. There is no charge for admission and food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Cancelations: In addition to rain, both ice/snow and any other hazardous conditions will cancel the ride. If the ride is canceled due to weather or hazardous conditions, a notice will be posted here, in the comments section below, by 11:00 a.m. on the day of the ride. If that notice is posted, the ride leader will not be at the start.
Ride Notes: All riders should bring ID; spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump, and skills to fix flats; a phone and a plan for rescue if your bike fails; and snacks and water. Waiting for mechanical issues will be at the discretion of the ride leader. It’s winter, so please dress appropriately and use fenders with long mudflaps on your bike. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to get yourself ready, listen to the safety briefing and sign or check the waiver.
Bathrooms: They are available at the start point.
Pre-registering online: If you have a Cascade account, you can pre-register for this ride online by clicking on the Register button at the top of this page and entering your information. Pre-registering saves time at the beginning the ride and provides legible emergency contact information. If you cannot make the ride, you do not need to un-register.
What to Know Before You Go
- Advance registration required. Cancel if unable to attend, to open space for others.
- Must be present at safety briefing to participate.
- Helmets required.
- Riders under 18 years old require parental consent & approval from the Ride Leader.
