Free Group Ride
MUMPS: Do The Lake Counterclockwise (Moderate)
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Join us for our weekly loop around Lake Washington. This week it's CCW (counterclockwise) MLK Day edition, with a tour through Beaux Arts Village, Enetai & Bellevue. We'll be following the same route as Dave and Judy's BRISK group.
We'll ride out of Log Boom Park; note that there is a four hour parking restriction at the park proper, so if you are concerned that it might be enforced, there is free parking just to the east on NE 175th.
You can ride all or part of the route. Start at Log Boom Park or meet us at Seward Park. However, please be aware that the route may be shortened to cross the lake on the 520 trail or I-90 trail, depending on weather and mood of the group, in which case we won't make it to Seward.
We will try to stay together, regrouping occasionally, but please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own. The pace is 14-16 MPH, no wind. Ride your own pace on the hills; faster riders are free to ride ahead and wait for the rest of us. The ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group. We will observe the speed limit on the multi-use trails. The route/cue sheet is at the link below. It will not be handed out at the start, so please download or print it if you want it during the ride.
A food stop on this ride will be OPTIONAL depending on the wishes of the group, so be sure to BRING FOOD in case we don't do a food stop. There are three rest stops on our route, Seward (19 miles), Coulon (27 miles) and Marina Parks (appx 44 miles). If as a group we decide to stop and eat (Starbucks, Bella ...) we may not use one of the rest stops.
Bring tools and knowledge to repair flats; we may pause briefly for flat repair and minor mechanicals, but have a phone and a plan to get home/back to the start if needed.
Fenders with long mud flaps are recommended. Anywhere the road is wet, if you don't have stable flaps extending to within a few inches of the ground, you'll need to take the initiative to stay behind everyone with better fenders.
Forecast for rain, snow, ice/frost or other unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the ride leaders will not be at the start and the cancellation will be posted (in Comments, below) at least 2 hours before the start.
