Free Group Ride
MUMPS: CCW Lake Loop Lite (Santa Edition)
Event has already happened.
Join us on this "lite" edition MUMPS CCW lake loop, with a couple hundred feet less climbing than our regular CCW loop (no Juanita climb). Perfect if you have the day off and want to ride, but need to save some energy for festivities!
We'll ride out of Log Boom Park. There is a four hour parking restriction at the park proper; if you are concerned that it might be enforced you can park nearby on NE 175th.
You can also sign up online and meet us along the route, but note that the route might get cut short (typically taking 520 or 90) without notice due to weather, which means we might not get to Leschi Starbucks or Seward Park. Meeting the group before we reach 520 is a better bet. In any case, we won't make the (VERY quick) stop at the Starbucks unless you let us know by 7:00 on the morning of the ride (leave a message here). We don't do a Leschi coffee stop per se on this route.
We will try to stay together, regrouping occasionally, but please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own. Ride your own pace on the hills; faster riders are free to ride ahead and wait for the rest of us. The ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group. We will observe the speed limit on the multi-use trails.
BYO (Bring Your Own) SNACKS! We'll pause at three excellent rest stops (Seward, Coulon, and Marina Parks) where you can down a gel or a bar, but are not making any coffee/restaurant stops. So stuff your jersey pockets with candy canes and gingerbread to fuel your ride!
Bring tools and knowledge to repair flats; we may pause briefly for flat repair and minor mechanicals, but have a phone and a plan to get home/back to the start if needed.
Fenders with long mud flaps are recommended. Anywhere the road is wet, if you don't have stable flaps extending to within a few inches of the ground, you'll need to take the initiative to stay behind everyone with better fenders.
Please register at least two hours in advance on this website to make sure that you are on the printed waiver, to save time at the start. You can also register at the start.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for briefing and ride prep so that we can leave on time.
Cancellation: Forecast for rain, snow, ice/frost or other unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the ride leader will not be at the start and the cancellation will be posted (in Comments, below) at least 2 hours before the start. Check your email before heading to the start if you registered online.
