Free Group Ride
Kick off the New Year Right - Leisurely
Event has already happened.
While traditionally a kickoff day for football, this year we will be riding our Kick-Off the New Year Right Ride to help kick-off your 2019 New Year resolution to ride more! (You did make that resolution last night, didn't you?)
We'll start in Kirkland at Marina Park and head southward toward the 520 Trail, running largely along waterfront streets. At the 520 bridge we will leave the route used by the faster groups and head south on Evergreen Point Road to Bellevue for a quick rest stop at Bellevue Downtown Park. We will ride over Main Street to go north on 112th, 116th and 132nd returning to Kirkland via Slater Road.
While not part of the formal ride, there will be an informal opportunity for those interested to join us for coffee (etc) after the ride at the Starbucks in downtown Kirkland which is close to our starting location (Starbucks - 116 Lake St S, Kirkland, WA 98033). The returning times will be a bit variable with the different paced groups but with our shorter route we will be returning at about the same time as the faster groups.
Please register for this ride by clicking on the red Register Now button at the top of this page. You'll need a Cascade account, but that is free and easy to create. Online registration closes two hours prior to ride time, and if you decide to ride after that we will have a waiver sheet for you to sign manually. Registration is not mandatory but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and helps us save time at the ride start.
If you are a new rider, we are very happy to have you with us. Also, riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Helmets are required on all Cascade rides. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and at major intersections. Arrive at least 20 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.
The route is at the Ride With GPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have copies.
Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior in the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here or on the Meetup site before leaving for the ride.
