Stay On Your Bike - Matthews Beach Seattle
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Fall weather riding is here, fewer riders are on the trails and the leaves are changing to beautiful colors, so if this may be of interest to you, please consider the following:
Been off the bike for a while? Bought a bike and not yet confident riding? Time to take advantage of nice weather to get riding for health, fitness or just fun! Here is your opportunity to develop riding skills, become more familiar with your bike and feel confident riding in a group.
We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail (BGT) to Logboom Park just off the BGT east of Lake Forest Park. Then take a bathroom break if needed. Passing back by the Lake Forest Park Mall, we can stop at the bakery for about 15 minutes, for a beverage or get a bakery treat if you're hungry. Also, use the restrooms if needed and then return to our start point at Matthews Beach. The terrain is flat. The pace is easy at less than 10 mph. Lights, front and back, are not required for day rides but are required for evening rides, when darkness may be anticipated. No cue sheets provided. Free parking at Matthews Beach Parking lot. Arrive early to beat the sea gulls for a good parking spot.
Arrive 20 minutes before the published start time to ready your bike and check in.
This is a social ride with experienced ride leader(s) to grow your confidence with group riding. It is free and open to everyone. The route is somewhat shorter than other Get on Your Bike routes and consists of trail only riding with no climbs so you can practice shifting gears on relatively flat terrain. Everyone will ride together so you need not be concerned about being left behind.
"Easy Pace" is less than 10 mph on flat surface without any headwind. Note that, average walking speed is around 3 mph, so we will be 3 times faster than walking. If you aren't sure about your pace, please join us anyway. If you need to return to the start early simply notify the ride leader. Carrying an ORCA card is another good option.
You should dress appropriately for the weather, but you do not need spandex or other specialized bike gear. All you need is a working bike, water, and a helmet. If you haven't ridden your bike for quite some time, please do a ABC Check (link below) or take it to your local bike shop a few days prior to the ride date. It is recommended that you bring a snack to eat mid-ride.
During the safety and ride briefing, we will go over hand signals and what we say during the ride to keep ourselves safe.
Register - Please sign an e-waiver by clicking on the “Register Now” button at the top of this page (right below the ride title) and enter your information. If you cannot make the ride, you do not need to unregister.
