"Boogie nights are always the best in town!"... Yep the evenings are getting darker and cooler but... "we've got to keep on rollin keep on rollin"... Come join us for a fun night ride out of Log Boom Park. This week's ride is a favorite of mine. It heads up Waynita and toddle around the Kingsgate neighborhood including a nice stretch on the Cross Kirkland Corridor gravel trail which is wide, flat, well-packed, and suitable for road bike tires. Then after a steady climb up the back side of Janita we end with an exhilarating downhill finally back into Log Boom.
The evenings are getting cold so dress appropriately in layers. It is especially chilly on the downhills. We recommend heavier long finger gloves and wool socks or shoe covers to keep those extremities warm.
This will be a moderate paced ride that will stay in the mid-range (+/- 15 mph) on the flats. We will climb at our own pace and regroup at the top of each hill. Please review the route ahead of time and print your own cue-sheet as the ride leader will not have copies at the start. The weather can be unpredictable this time of year so please have the appropriate rain gear and fenders with buddy flaps on your bike, both for your comfort and the safety of the rider behind you. We will ride in light rain but heavy rain cancels. Ride cancelation due to heavy rain or unsafe conditions will be announced in the comments sections of the ride post 2 hours ahead of the ride start. If canceled early the ride leader will not be at the ride start.
This will be an after dark ride, You must come equipped with a headlight and taillight! Without these you will be not allowed to ride with the group. The headlight should light up the road well in front of you and reflective outerwear is encouraged. Remember to charge your lights before the ride!
Log Boom Park has water and restrooms available and we will gather for the ride start next to the playground area. Be aware that the parking lot closes and is gated off after dark so park your car on the street! There is plenty of parking along 175th.
Please register for the ride by clicking on the “Register Now” button, note you will need to be signed into your account prior to that. Registration is not mandatory, but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and helps us save time at the ride start. Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. We strongly suggest you carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. Arrive at least 20 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.
Night rides offer a fun, different kind of ride experience and are safe in groups with the correct equipment, so come boogie with us!!
