Free Group Ride
MUMPS: Do The Lake (Moderate)
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
NOTE: Log Boom park departs 10am, Leschi Starbucks 11:15
With the return to Standard Time, we"ll ride the typical winter Lake Washington loop route (sometimes with variations), starting at Log Boom Park in Kenmore. There is a four hour parking restriction in the Park. If you are concerned it might be enforced you can park on NE 175th St heading into the park.
This moderate paced ride will start at Log Boom Park @ 10:00 or you can meet us at the Leschi Starbucks at about 11:15. (We make a brief coffee stop there.) Contact the ride leader by text if you plan to meet us at Leschi (in case we change the route). Depending on weather and mood of the group, the route may be shortened to cross the lake on I-90 trail, loop Mercer Island or go through Seattle to Magnolia or Green Lake. Because the route is subject to change, this is a STAY TOGETHER ride. (Faster riders are still welcome to climb the hills at their own pace and regroup at the top.)
The route/cue sheet linked below is the "standard" Lake Loop. The "big" climb is Juanita Drive in Kirkland, almost at the end, about 400 feet of elevation gain but not very steep. Riders can choose a much flatter finish by continuing north on 98th/100th/Waynita Way (all the same road) to the former Wayne Golf Course and find the Burke Gilman Trail there and take it west to Log Boom. The cue sheet includes a typical lunch stop at Starbucks/Subway/McDonalds at I-405 exit 7 (just across the freeway from the turn onto Seahawks Way), though the lunch location is also sometimes different.
Weather: Forecast for rain, snow, ice/frost or other unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the moderate pace ride leader will not be at the start at Log Boom Park and the cancellation will be posted (in Comments, below) at least 2 hours before the start.
Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long mud flaps if rain is expected or the roads are wet. You may still ride with us without them, but if you are spraying other riders we'll assume you are willing to drop to the back.
Please come with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals (or with a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there). If you have a problem the group will stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own.
Riders should be at the start with ride-ready bikes and gear at least 10 minutes early for safety talk.
You can save time at the start by pre-registering here. Make sure you are logged into your CBC account (you don't have to be a member to have an account), click on REGISTER NOW, check the waiver box, and you're good to go. You don't have to un-register if you don't make it to the ride.
