Free Group Ride
Vashon & Maury Islands Loop
Event has already happened.
Join us for a fall excursion around lovely Vashon Island where we will enjoy fall colors and stunning views. Your ride leaders will be riding tandems, but both tandem and single riders who enjoy hills and riding brisk are welcome. ***This ride includes a ferry – please see meeting time details below.***
This loop is not to be taken lightly. Vashon is known for its rolling topography, which can be seen on the RWGPS route elevation profile. We will maintain a brisk pace of 16-18 mph on the flats without the benefit or hinderance of wind. Hills will be ridden at a rider’s individual pace with regroups at the top and bottom of hills (tandems do tend to be slower than singles uphill). Regroups will be no more than 5 minutes as it is important for the well being of the group that we not keep riders standing around for too long so that muscles do not seize up. Please review the route and elevation profile to determine if this is a route you can do comfortably while maintaining the designated pace on the flats.
***It is highly recommended you load the RWGPS route below onto your GPS device or phone and/or print a cuesheet in case you find the route more challenging than you anticipated.
Following the ride we will meet up at Elliot Bay Brewing in West Seattle - 4720 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116. Hope you can join us!
Ferry: Please meet at the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal no later than 8:30 a.m., near the passenger ticket booth. We will be catching the 9:15 a.m. ferry as walk-on/bike passengers. Bicycles are loaded prior to the cars. If you are not ready to board at least 20 minutes prior to departure you will be loaded at the end and possibly risk missing the ferry and this awesome ride, so please plan accordingly.

Fares (roundtrip): Adults 19-64 = $5.55/Adults 65 & over = $2.75/Bicycle Surcharge = $1.00
If roads are wet or weather reports suggest a possibility of rain, full fenders with long mud flaps are highly recommended and greatly appreciated for the comfort and safety of your fellow riders as well as yourself. No fenders means you are happy to ride in the back.
Riders should bring a spare tube, patch kit, pump, tools, and knowledge to repair flats and minor mechanical issues. Please have a backup plan in case of a major mechanical (someone to call for rescue). It happens!
No formal food stop is planned, so riders should carry ample hydration and snacks. We hope to stop at Burton Coffee Stand at approx. mile 20, but we cannot guarantee what food will still be available.
Public restrooms and water are available at the Fauntleroy Terminal and on the ferry.
Registration: To save time at the start, please register for the ride by clicking on red Register Now button. No need to unregister if you are no longer able to ride.
