Duvall-Carnation-Sultan Gravel Loop

Join us for a pleasant gravel stroll through Duvall and Carnation backroads. We will ride at a Brisk pace (16-18 mph on the flats) on the pavement and a similar effort level but slower pace on the unpaved sections. On some trails we will further reduce our speed for safety.

All experience levels are welcome. For new gravel riders, we will stop occasionally throughout the ride to share tips relevant to the area we are riding in. 

This will be a fairly long ride. You will need to bring food and water - I would recommend 2 granola bars (or the equivalent) and 2 water bottles. We will have 1 stop at Sultan Bakery at mile 38.5 for delicious food, water, and restrooms. 

Expectations: Riders should be able to sustain the advertised pace; know how to change a flat (and have the requisite equipment; the group will not wait indefinitely for major mechanical issues). We will be in this together and will not abandon you in the woods, but we also need to make sure all members of the group are safe (i.e. not waiting for an hour in steady rain). The most important thing is that you should bring a positive, can-do attitude! 

Tires: You will probably be much happier on a bike with wide tires (>32 mm) and road bike tires are not appropriate for all the surfaces in this route. I will be riding 38 mm. Mountain bikes will be fine, but please make sure you can sustain 16-18 mph on flats with a mountain bike.   

Registration: To save time at the ride start, you are encouraged to sign the online waiver by clicking the red “Register Now” button above.

Ride start: Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the ride to sign the liability waiver and hear the safety briefing. For those driving, we will be gathered in a group in the Duvall park n ride. There will be bathrooms at McCormick Park, which isn't at the start but is a short drive/bike ride away. If you need to use the restrooms before the ride, allow yourself a little more time to stop at McCormick Park. 

Weather cancellation: Steady rain cancels. Cancellation will be announced in the comments below at least two hours before the ride start.
