This is a 29-mile Moderate pace mentored ride for a Cascade Ride Leader candidate.
It will start at the Centennial Trailhead at Machias Park north of Snohomish.
THE ROUTE: We will travel south on the trail into Snohomish and then move to the streets to make our way through the quaint downtown area and eventually travel north along Lowell Snohomish River Road to Everett. We will then head east on the Highway 2 bike trail and back south, following the east side of the river, to Snohomish, then back north to the trailhead. It is mostly flat with only one very short climb that would be considered steep. We will be traveling at 14-16 mph on the flats for this ride.
While the route is scenic, it is mostly rural and services are limited to non-existent in areas. Make sure you have the tools, a spare tube or patch kit -- and the knowledge -- to fix a flat. The rain has washed a lot of junk that can puncture tires onto the shoulders, so be prepared. Also, you should have a phone to call for a rescue ride if your bike suffers a major mechanical problem.
A link to a Ride With GPS route map and cue sheet are available at the link below. Please, print your own cue sheet if you want one.
THE START: There are bathrooms in the building at Machias Park and water is available. As a backup, we will be passing the public bathrooms in Snohomish shortly after the start but will only stop in an emergency on the way out of town. We will also offer a quick bathroom stop at Lowell Park on Third in South Everett.
Please, arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of the start time to check-in and to hear the discussion of the route and SMART talk.
STAYING DRY: The drizzly season is starting, so if there is a chance of showers or the roads are wet, it is advisable to have fenders on your bike. Fenders are not required to ride but if you don't have them and it gets wet, you will be asked to ride at the back of the group.
REGISTRATION: Please use the club's electronic system by clicking on the red Register Now button.
CANCELLATION: In case of steady rain, a notice of cancellation will be posted two hours before the ride. If the weather is questionable, please check here before leaving home.
